Believe it or not the use of football boots dates back to Henry VIII of England. Her majesty ordered a pair from the Great Wardrobe in 1526, the royal shopping list stated: "45 velvet pairs and 1 leather pair for football". My pre-teen sons are both very athletic, but they don't play traditional stick-and-ball sports. Instead, they prefer extreme activities like skateboarding, snowboarding, and dirt biking. These sports are just as good for developing coordination, self-confidence, and self-esteem as baseball or soccer, so I fully support my children's choices in any way I can. You might think that with such a huge variety of soccer cleats on the market that it's all about fashion, and whilst that certainly plays its part, there is much more to choosing the right cleats than just going for the same make and style as your favorite player.

You can easily replace the studs when they wear, and you can buy studs or blades in different lengths to suit the conditions in which you are playing. The tip of the studs is often made of metal or very durable plastic and it is actually this part which is known as the 'cleat.'

If you are playing on harder surfaces, the preferred choice of soccer shoe is the firm ground type which generally have molded studs or cleats. Unlike traditional soccer boots, these do not have removable studs or blades. They provide great grip on medium hard surfaces (dry grass, for instance) and have become increasingly popular in recent years. Most major soccer shoe manufacturers now offer firm ground cleats in various styles.

If you play on very hard or artificial surfaces (such as astroturf) you should consider hard ground soccer shoes. These are easily identified by their closely molded studs which usually cover the entire sole of the shoe. Whilst they are great for hard surfaces or for playing on astroturf, hard ground boots should be avoided if you are play on softer surfaces as they will not generally provide sufficient grip.

The upper part of modern soccer shoes can be made from various materials. Some of the more expensive shoes have leather uppers, whilst less expensive varieties may be made of synthetic materials. Leather uppers will provide great comfort and are preferred by many players who appreciate the additional 'feel' on the ball that the softer surface provides. Leather soccer shoes often take some time to 'wear in', and many players prefer them to be a slightly tighter fit when new, knowing that they will quickly become more comfortable in use. Soccer cleats with leather uppers benefit from a little additional time spent in cleaning, but you don't need to treat them with dubbin, which was the traditional way of looking after your boots. Nowadays there are many sports shoe cleaners and conditioners which are much easier to use and will keep your new soccer shoes waterproof and in great shape.

The two most important factors in buying the right soccer shoes are the sole design and stud pattern and, of course, comfort. It is important to try several pairs of cleats before making your final choice. More expensive soccer shoes will likely be made of finer materials with additional styling features and they may also be slightly more comfortable when new, but if you are on a tight budget do not always discount soccer shoes which are cheaper. Most major manufacturers such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Umbro and Puma produce high quality cleats to suit all pockets. Before you play or train in your new boots, try wearing them around the house for a while to speed the break in process and remember to avoid concrete or other hard surfaces to minimise the wear on the studs or blades.

Pleasure Bears Soccer was founded back in the winter of 2007-2008. In the earliest days of the game's life, there consisted two teams: the Bears and the Pleasure. These two teams became rivals, as they were the only teams in the league. That is how the game became known as Pleasure Bears Soccer, which eventually became abbreviated to PBS, the league for kids. PBS Kids was initially played with a cap-less water bottle, but that was changed as there were an increasing amount of foot injuries. (The rules say that all players must play without shoes). The game later evolved after a ball was found and donated to the organization. The ball was a great success for the league, and attracted much attention from the entire school. Soon there were teams lined up to participate in the first ever PBS season. Two additions to the league were the Humping Pfrogs (silent 'p'), and the Bangkok Saltines. With the introduction of the first two-name teams, the older teams followed suit, becoming the Chastity Bears and the Mountain's Pleasure. Pele, the legendary soccer player, was born in Três Coracoes, Brazil on October 23, 1940 son of a renowned football player Dondinho. Edison Arantes Nascimento or commonly known as Pele is a former Brazilian football player who was rated by many as the greatest footballer of all time. He was able to gain the title as the Athlete of the Century given by the International Olympic Committee.

Pele grew in poverty and earned extra money by shining shoes at the Bauru Athletic Club. At the age of 15 he joined the Santos FC junior team. He was able to earn his fame and fortune through his talent on the playing field.

Pele was considered as a national hero for his accomplishments and contributions to the sport of soccer. Because of his achievements in the sport, he was officially declared by FIFA as the Football Ambassador of the world. During his career as a soccer player, he was also known as "The King of Football". He is also a member of the American National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Pele is the first ever soccer player to achieve numerous international commendation and his name is regularly mentioned in news events of soccer. As Pele have the heart for the poor, he dedicated his 1,000th goal play to the poor children of Brazil and being acknowledged for his vocal support of policies to improve the social conditions of his constituents.

Since his full retirement in soccer on 1977, Pelé has been an ambassador for the Football League and receive various citations and awards such as the prestigious Laureus World Sports Lifetime Award from the South African President Nelson Mandel in 2000.
